| Sensei Deon Claassen of NewCastle dojo was was upgraded to National Referee B after passing his written exams and practical evaluation. |
| The 2 students of Newcastle Funakoshi karate club, who represented KZN, did very well. The competition was very tough, with some divisions having over 30 participants. There were 13 Provincial teams that were represented at the tournament. |
| Deon Smit, Junior Male Kumite (age 16-17) -55kg: It was his 1st national tournament, and being only a Yellow belt, he lost his fight 2-1 against a Jnr. Black belt. |
| Louis Boshoff, Cadet Boys Kumite (age 14-15) -70kg: This was his 2nd National tournament and he did better that last year. He won his 1st fight 6-0, but unfortunately lost his 2nd fight 13-12 in the last 6 seconds of the bout. |
