NATIONAL BLACK BELT SEMINAR
On the 5th of May a National Black Belt Seminar was held at The Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West. Black Belts of all over SA attended the event.

The seminar was kicked off with the WKF (World Karate Federation) kumite rules and practical application of the rules. Sensei Selwyn Rhoda presented this referee course.

The Guest speaker was Hein Wagner. What a guy! He broke the World Blind Land Speed Record in September 2005 and set the new record at 269.2km/h.

His presentation took us on a humorous and moving journey of Hein's view on the world he lives in. He shared some of his light and dark moments, as well as his personal
recipe to achieve extra ordinary results.

You choose your response. Whatever you do, you can choose to be positive and see everything in your life as a challenge.

He ending his talk by saying to us: “I am blind. What is your excuse?”.

Then the hard work started. We had to work in groups and formulate a mission statement for Funakoshi Karate.

We formulated the following mission statement:
Funakoshi Karate develops and promotes excellence in all individuals through the training and teaching of

the art of karate and living the principles of Character, Ettiquette, Effort, Sincerity and Self control.

Lastly, but not least we had to get on the floor and learn the new 5th Dan kata, Kata Nukite.

Every black belt enjoyed learning the new kata. Thank you to Shihan for a great seminar.

Sensei Frank Mackenzie graded for his 5th Dan on Sunday 6/5/2007 at Vital Health Foods.

He attended the Bravo Seminar and is the head instructor for Funakoshi Karate Australia.
